Commission Policy

Last updated: May 2026

Thank you for your interest in commissioning a custom artwork from Martel’s Art.

Commissions are approached as a collaborative and personal creative process, with the aim of creating a meaningful and unique final piece for each client.

Please read the following information carefully before submitting a commission enquiry.

1. Commission Enquiries

Commission requests can be submitted through the contact form on the Commissions page. When enquiring, please include as much relevant information as possible, such as: preferred size, colour palette, framing preferences, and any desired deadlines. Submitting an enquiry does not guarantee acceptance of a commission. I reserve the right to decline commission requests at my discretion.

2. Creative Process

Each commissioned artwork is an original piece created in my own artistic style and interpretation. While client input and references are welcomed, creative decisions regarding composition, colour, and artistic execution remain part of the artistic process. The aim is always to create a final artwork that feels authentic, thoughtful, and personal to the client.

3. Pricing & Payment

Commission pricing varies depending on: size, complexity, materials, framing requirements, and timescale. Payment terms will be discussed and agreed before work begins. Depending on the commission, a deposit or full payment may be required in advance.

4. Refunds & Cancellations

Due to the personalised nature of commissioned artwork: commission payments are non-refundable once work has commenced, deposits are non-refundable, and commissioned pieces cannot be returned for change of mind. This policy exists because significant time, planning, and creative work goes into each custom artwork.

5. Timelines

Commission timelines vary depending on workload, scale, and complexity. An estimated completion timeframe will be discussed and agreed upon before work begins. While every effort will be made to meet estimated deadlines, occasional delays may occur due to creative process, drying times, framing, shipping, or circumstances outside reasonable control. Clients will be informed of any significant delays where possible.

6. Framing

Where framing is requested, framing is completed in collaboration with a local professional framer. As frames are custom-made to order, framing timelines are estimated and may vary depending on availability and production time.

7. Shipping & Delivery

Completed commissions are shipped using tracked and signed delivery services where possible. International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, or import charges required by their country. Further details can be found in the Shipping Policy.

8. Copyright & Usage

Copyright and reproduction rights remain with Harry Martel / Martel’s Art unless otherwise agreed in writing. Clients may not reproduce, sell, distribute, or commercially use commissioned artwork without prior written permission. I reserve the right to photograph and share commissioned artwork on my website, portfolio, or social media unless confidentiality has been agreed in advance.
